1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die

The New York Times has a piece on a new British book called “1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die.” (It is technically 1002 books if you count the guidebook.) The actual list can be found here.

I was surprised to see House of Leaves, personally, and Finnegans Wake might be better suited for the sequel, "1001 Books You Must Pretend to Read Before You Die." Which books on the big list could you do without?

I really enjoyed this list. It's raining here, and it was so fun to sit and dork out on books.

#972 is a book titled Amelia by Henry Fielding. Amelia have you read this?

I thought I was well-read until this list, but I did get some ideas--Novel With Cocaine by M. Ageyev I have to read because the title cracks me up.

On the flipside, I had a strong, strong aversion to the title Celestial Harmonies by Peter Esterhazy.

That's when I got the idea to make my own list of:
Books I Promise To Never Read
1) Celestial Harmonies

Thanks for posting this. I've been scrutinizing the list for a while now and every time I do, I get a little overwhelmed. But here's the idea I have: if only they made trading cards. I'd totally trade some of the books I'd never heard much about for some that aren't there. (but see? even as I say that, I can't tell you what's not there.) It did make me want to read Zola. I've not read Zola yet.

Trading cards is an awesome idea. I haven't read Amelia yet but I have a feeling that would be a rare one.
