Where have all my flowers gone?

Where is everyone? What is everyone doing? I'm in Rutherfordton, so I can't actually watch the clip that Mista Wolfe posted b/c I'm currently living in the dark ages. I'm half joking. But on Thursday I'm heading to San Miguel D'Allende on a trip inspired by one Laura Summerhill who bused it there form San Marcos.

Give me the 411 on your holidays.

I was in Tucson this past week, helping my dad usher Christmas Eve candlelight services at the Presbyterian church. They generally put me in charge of dimming the lights so that I don't have to talk to anyone. I just made the drive back yesterday--I stop at the Dairy Queen on road trips now because it reminds me of our trip, Abby.

On the drive back to Austin, I stayed in a Super 8 Motel in Ozona, TX. In El Paso, I witnessed a drug-sniffing german shepherd jumping through the driver's-side window of a red Cadillac Escalade. The line cooks were playing checkers on a board behind the counter of the the Las Cruces Dairy Queen.

I just went to a house party with Bill Richardson. A few nights ago I wound up in a bar surrounded by cnn and fox and washington post journalists who found me fascinating and bought me drinks and asked me questions about who my family was leaning towards and why. I really don't understand how the rest of the country isn't/can't be somehow involved in the caucus experience. Tonight I'm going to see Barack speak. It's kind of like SXSW, except that it's really fucking cold here and you can't find a decent margarita.

aww heck. I miss you people. I am writing a teaching statement. Amelia--I feel that you could write a short short in the form of a statement of teaching philosphy. The one I'm working on can only be one page.
I want a blizzard or a margarita.
Michael, are you on TV?

I'm still in San Diego. I'll be leaving on Saturday, heading back up north to start the mountains of pre-spring semester bullshit I have to do. My immediate and extended family members have been pouring into this house since I got home. Everyone's leaving today--except me. Mom and I are going to go shopping tomorrow. The best part of this vacation, however, has been re-reading all my old V.C. Andrews books with my older sister, which my mom kept for us in our old bedroom. Nice. Kate and I are literally in bed reading side by side, every night at 10pm. So funny. I've read three so far. This shit is so good. I remember when we younger we'd bike down to Crown Books with the five dollars my mom would give us for allowance and buying an Andrews book. They were only $4.95, and they were stocked in the Horror section. Now, they've made it over to Literature. I can't believe I was reading books about rape, consensual incest, kidnapping, alcoholics, and general big-time sluts when I was twelve years old. Explains alot about my writing. There's just some things you can get away with when you have a single parent.

Much love to you all!!!

Michael, that's awesome. I wish I could be there to see all of that.
